Adobe Photoshop is a program that most creatives can’t live without. Its vast capabilities allow you to edit and manipulate photographs in all sorts of ways. But many designers don’t love using Photoshop; it can become a grueling and frustrating process with all of the different tools and functions there are. Our design team took a moment to think back on some of the most basic and practical tips that have truly proved there worth during their experience working with this program. Below, we’ve put together a few tips and notions to consider before getting started on your next project in Photoshop.

  • Photoshop can do wonders on an image, but only to a certain extent. When it comes to editing lighting, this can sometimes be an annoying element and somewhat difficult to manipulate. It’s important to make lighting a priority when taking the original photo.
  • Using quick commands on your keyboard will allow you to make small adjustments faster. For instance, if you want to resize an image without distorting it, simple hold down the “Shift” button and use your mouse to pull the corner of the photo to adjust it to the size you see fit.
  • Make use of the cropping tool; you can create multiple new compositions using only this one tool
  • Always remember that photoshop is a tool, not a crutch. The best photographs are a result of doing it right the first time. Make sure you’re using the proper camera settings and lightings before capturing your imagine, then use Photoshop as  tool to enhance or manipulate it, but not fix.
